Plant Protein vs. Whey Protein: Which Is Better for Muscle Growth, Recovery & Your Lifestyle?

THE INVINCIBLE PROTEIN GUIDE

Plant Protein vs. Whey Protein: Which Is Right for You?

Muscle growth. Post-workout recovery. Everyday nutrition. Both plant and whey protein can help you reach your protein goals—but their sources, ingredients and nutritional profiles aren’t identical. Here’s how to choose with confidence.

p

Choosing a protein powder isn’t just about the biggest number on the front of the tub. Consider how much protein you need, what ingredients you prefer, whether you consume dairy, and which product fits your routine and budget. At Invincible Supplements, we offer both whey protein isolate and a different approach to plant protein.

THE QUICK ANSWER: Whey protein isolate is a dairy-derived protein with a well-characterized essential amino acid profile. Plant protein can also support muscle maintenance and growth when it supplies sufficient protein and essential amino acids as part of your overall diet. Your best choice depends on your dietary preferences, total daily protein intake, training and the specific formula.

1. What’s the Difference Between Plant Protein and Whey?

Whey protein isolate: a dairy-derived protein

Whey is a protein found in milk. Whey protein isolate is processed to concentrate the protein and remove much of the fat and carbohydrate. Whey naturally provides all nine essential amino acids and is a well-studied option for people who strength train, exercise regularly or simply want a convenient source of dietary protein.

Invincible Advanced Whey Protein Isolate provides 22g protein per serving in both Vanilla and Chocolate. Each tub contains 24 servings. Both formulas use whey protein isolate as the first ingredient and are sweetened with stevia leaf extract.

p

Plant protein: more than pea and rice

Plant-based protein powders can be made from peas, rice, soy, seeds, beans and other sources. Their amino acid profiles and protein concentrations vary by ingredient and blend, so it’s important to look beyond the words “plant protein.”

Our Invincible 100% Plant Protein takes a different approach: it combines Tendra® Fava Bean Protein Isolate with YESTEIN™ Fermented Nutritional Yeast Protein. This is a distinctive alternative to the familiar pea-and-rice blend—not a claim that all other plant proteins are inferior.

p

2. The Invincible Difference: Fava Bean + Fermented Yeast Protein

PROTEIN SOURCE 1: Tendra® Fava Bean Protein Isolate
Fava beans provide a legume-derived protein source. Using fava bean isolate gives our plant formula a different ingredient foundation from conventional pea-and-rice products.
p
PROTEIN SOURCE 2:YESTEIN™ Fermented Nutritional Yeast Protein
A protein ingredient produced using fermentation. Paired with fava bean isolate, it helps create the dual-source protein blend in our Vanilla and Chocolate formulas.

These named ingredients are an important part of our product story. However, the Supplement Facts labels don’t state the individual amounts of Tendra® and YESTEIN™ or provide a full amino acid breakdown. We therefore don’t claim the blend is more digestible, contains a particular leucine dose, or outperforms whey for muscle growth.

4. Which Protein Is Better for Muscle Growth and Recovery?

Resistance training stimulates muscle adaptation, and adequate dietary protein provides amino acids your body uses to build and maintain muscle tissue. Total daily protein intake, training consistency and overall diet generally matter more than choosing a product solely because it is plant-based or dairy-based.

Whey protein is naturally rich in essential amino acids, including leucine, and is extensively studied in sports nutrition. Plant protein can also contribute effectively to your daily protein goals. However, plant sources differ in their amino acid profiles, and the amount or combination needed to achieve a comparable essential amino acid intake may vary.

For many exercising adults, a commonly cited sports-nutrition guideline is approximately 1.4–2.0g protein per kilogram of body weight per day, depending on goals, activity and individual needs. That is a general range—not a personalized prescription.

Practical takeaway: Choose a protein you’ll consistently use, then evaluate it as part of your entire day’s nutrition. If you avoid dairy, a plant protein can be a convenient option. If you prefer a dairy-derived isolate with a well-established amino acid profile, whey is a strong choice.

5. Flavor and Ingredients: What Makes Each Formula Different?

Plant Vanilla — a distinctive dual-source blend

Provides 20g protein and 110 calories per serving. Tendra® fava bean isolate and YESTEIN™ fermented yeast protein are the protein sources. The formula includes natural flavors, MCT oil powder, apple pectin powder and stevia leaf extract. It lists 4g total sugar per serving.

Plant Chocolate — cocoa meets plant protein

Provides 21g protein, 110 calories and 1g total sugar per serving. Its chocolate profile features Nidau Cocoa Powder and Nightfall Black Cocoa Powder alongside the same fava bean and fermented yeast protein sources. It’s a chocolate-forward choice for shoppers who want an alternative to dairy protein.

Whey Vanilla — straightforward whey isolate

Provides 22g protein and 120 calories per serving. Whey protein isolate leads the ingredient list, followed by natural flavors and supporting ingredients including MCT oil powder, apple pectin powder, sunflower lecithin and stevia leaf extract. Contains milk.

Whey Chocolate — whey isolate with two cocoa ingredients

Provides 22g protein and 120 calories per serving. Its formula includes Nidau Cocoa Powder and Nightfall Cocoa Powder with whey protein isolate, MCT oil powder, sunflower lecithin and stevia leaf extract. Contains milk.

Ingredient lists are summarized for readability; always check the full product label for current ingredients and allergen information. Plant-based protein sources do not, by themselves, establish allergen-free status or suitability for every diet.

7. Frequently Asked Questions

Is plant protein as good as whey for building muscle?

Both can contribute to muscle growth when combined with resistance training and adequate total protein intake. Whey has a well-characterized essential amino acid profile; plant protein quality varies by source and blend. We have not published a complete amino acid analysis for our plant blend, so we don’t claim the two formulas are identical in muscle-building effect.

Is Invincible Plant Protein made from peas or rice?

No. The listed protein ingredients are Tendra® Fava Bean Protein Isolate and YESTEIN™ Fermented Nutritional Yeast Protein. This is one of the defining differences in our formula.

How much protein is in each serving?

Plant Vanilla contains 20g, Plant Chocolate 21g, and both Whey Vanilla and Whey Chocolate contain 22g protein per serving.

Are your protein powders sweetened with stevia?

Yes. Stevia leaf extract appears in the ingredient lists for all four formulas. Check each flavor’s full ingredient label for other ingredients.

Does the Chocolate Plant Protein contain real cocoa?

Yes. Its ingredient list names Nidau Cocoa Powder and Nightfall Black Cocoa Powder. The Chocolate Whey formula also lists two cocoa powders.

Is whey protein dairy-free?

No. Whey is derived from milk, and both Invincible whey flavors list milk as an allergen. If you have a milk allergy, do not use whey protein.

Does plant protein cause less bloating than whey?

Digestive comfort varies by person, serving size and ingredients. We don’t have comparative clinical testing showing our plant formula causes less bloating than our whey formula.

Can I use protein powder on rest days?

Yes. Protein is needed every day, not only after workouts. A protein shake can be a convenient way to help meet your daily intake when food alone doesn’t cover it.

Which formula has fewer calories?

Both plant flavors list 110 calories per serving; both whey flavors list 120 calories. The difference is 10 calories per serving.

How many servings come in a tub?

All four products provide 24 servings per container. Serving sizes are 35g for both plant flavors and Chocolate Whey, and 34g for Vanilla Whey.
